Hear From Our Donor: Vladimir Markov

Giving Back to Nepal

My name is Vladimir Markov, and I am a native of St. Petersburg where I lived until 2000. I hold a PhD degree in Theoretical Physics and conducted research in elementary particle physics in several universities in both Russia and Germany. In 2007 I moved to New York City where I joined a hedge fund. Currently, I work as the Head of Market Structure Research for a global brokerage company.

Last year I visited Nepal, and I was deeply struck by its natural beauties and rich cultural heritage. As a consequence, I looked into charitable giving opportunities in several Nepalese non-profit organizations. In Katmandu I met with a local coordinator at NCEF. I had the feeling that the organization is run by sincere volunteers. I also really liked the financial transparency of the organization as all of its accounting documents since 2002 are available to review on their website. The bureaucratic overhead is minimal, and donations go directly to the educational needs of the local children.

In the US, a charity donation is an attractive way to maximize the value of your money spent because of various tax incentives.  In addition, an investment in a child’s education is the greatest gift as it continues

throughout the life of the person. Donating with food or clothing is just a temporary fix, not a long term solution or permanent skill set. Finally, it feels good to know that I am making a difference in children’s futures by giving them access to acquiring the skills and tools that will help them grow and prosper.

  Updates from Nepal

February’s updates on students and exciting new developments for NCEF

Updates about our organization:
We are evaluating a new area from Sindupalchowk, where there is a group of energetic students who want to start an NCEF operation in there. Stay tuned for further developments on this in coming newsletters. NCEF is still planning on expanding its range into new areas throughout 2013.

Updates from our students in Sunsari:
Our volunteers visit the students periodically to check on their progress in school and also assist them in case they need help. The latest student visit report from our volunteers in Sunsari tells us about activities our students enjoyed in school.

Anita enjoyed her teacher's stories.
Anusha had fun dancing.
Dipesh was happy to learn how to play computer games.
Isha enjoyed singing.
Pabitra liked collecting insects for class.
Ranjit was thrilled that everybody clapped for him after singing in class.
Laxmi enjoyed the recent Nepali festivals.

In Next Month’s Newsletter

Next month, we’ll take a closer look at our students and volunteers and give further updates on our students and on the progress of expanding to new areas.
