As a small independent organization with no paid staff, NCEF relies on individual donors to support our mission. With support from our committed and generous donors, we were able to raise $16,697 in 2010. Majority of the donations poured in the end of December and we are very thankful to all our supporters.
The Mira Rana Michaud Memorial continued to be the largest contributor of donations and accounted for 36% of private donations. Since its establishment in 2005, the Memorial has raised over $37,000 for the cause.

Prakash Ojha from Toronto, Canada led a successful fund raising campaign to help needy children from Nepal. His campaign, “Toronto Waterfront Marathon” raised over $1,200 and drew donations from all over the world.
Our Facebook cause, which now has over 8,300+ supporters, raised $309. As in previous years, the “Recycle for Education” project initiated by Hem Pokharel raised $90.
We were excited to see an increase in matching gifts amounting over $3,000. Many companies provide a benefit to their employees by matching all or part of the charitable donation. We would like to remind our donors that this is a great way to maximize their contribution.
This year NCEF formed a fund raising team consisting of few core members who will focus on fund raising activities and strategies. One of the main tasks for the team is to prioritize goals with the limited resource available to NCEF. The team is already working on a few projects and exploring new ideas.
We remain grateful to all our donors and well-wishers for their generous contribution and support. If you would like to start your own fund raising campaign, get involved or have brilliant ideas, please email fundraising@nepalchildren.org.

Thanks to your generous contribution and support, NCEF has approved Urlabari as a new area. Urlabari is designated as "areas under evaluation" as outlined in our New Area Identification Program. The continuation of the new area will be based on metrics such as student visit frequency, report filing, promptness of communication, costs, and quality of applications and reports. NCEF team continues to receive and evaluate new areas in order to expand our work to meet needy students.
About Urlabari, Morang
Morang is in the South Eastern region of Nepal that borders India. It is one of the more developed districts in the country. Morang has played a significant role in the political and industrial development of Nepal. The district has a diverse geographic landscape and demographic distribution. The hilly terrain and the southern plains house many diasporas. Agriculture plays a major economic role in the economy as Morang is known for its production of jute, sugarcane, and rice. Morang is also a major manufacturing hub and is highly industrialized.
Despite the many economic advantages Morang has compared to other parts of Nepal, the majority of the VDCs (Village Development Community) in the district are still underdeveloped. There is a lack of good government programs to support the poor population in the region to achieve basic educational needs. NCEF is attempting to change this for at least a small proportion of students that it can support. We need your continued support to help us succeed.
