Volunteer Beat - An Interview with Sachin Maharjan

Sachin Maharjan

Sachin was born and raised in Lalitpur, Nepal. He helped his father with the family's business of sculpting from a very young age. He came to the United States to pursue a Bachelor's degree in computer science at Louisiana Tech University. Sachin also has a Master's degree in computer science from Texas State University.

Sachin has been working as a programmer in a start-up company called Rally (formerly Piryx) after finishing college. Rally is a fundraising platform which helps non-profit and political campaigns raise funds. Sachin manages the website and provides technical support to NCEF.

How did you first come to learn about the NCEF?

Rally, the company I work for, has always encouraged participation in different causes and non-profits. As a Nepali I was looking for causes that would allow me to help people in Nepal. A quick Google search helped me narrow down some non-profits based in the US. After some background research I decided that my interests were best aligned with NCEF because of their commitment to making education accessible to Nepali children.

What motivated you to be a part of NCEF?

With my background in fundraising I really wanted to help NCEF increase their fundraising efforts. I looked at the website for NCEF and came up with some ideas that would help make the website and fundraising more efficient. So, I contacted the organization and asked if I could help.

Why did you choose to volunteer for NCEF out of all the other non-profits?

There is a lot of change happening in Nepal currently. Children are the future of Nepal so we need to invest in their education. For long lasting impact, and to help Nepal, children's education is the way to go.

How has your overall experience been as an NCEF volunteer and how have you managed your busy schedule along with volunteering for this organization?

So far it has been great. Everyone I have met so far has been motivated towards one goal - to help make it easier for children to access education in Nepal. Everyone has a lot of things going on in life but to squeeze a few hours from their hectic schedules every now and then to help the children in Nepal is a noble thing to do. I am happy to be a part of this cause.

Finally, do you have any general comments/suggestions to other people who are willing to help NCEF?

I would recommend that people help in any way they can to the organization. Any amount donated is not small. Any time volunteered is not too little.
